This Team is Going Nowhere Fast

I know that Joe Girardi is a patient man, but it’s time to shake things up with this lineup. The middle of the order is consistently bad. He keeps saying they need to get hot, but if he is waiting for A-Rod, Texeira and Swisher to all get hot and sustain that, then he may be in for a long wait. I would much rather see Swisher in the two hole, with Cano third and Granderson fourth. That would move A-Rod down to fifth and Texeira sixth, which is much more where they belong than in the four and five hole. They are killing this team and it isn’t just this year. They have been inconsistent for most of the past two seasons and it killed them in the playoffs last year. They are not going to suddenly turn things around and hit well from their current spots in the order. It just ain’t going to happen. Time to shake things up and see if that helps any. What have they got to lose? And when is someone going to tell Texeira that being a one dimensional pull hitter is not the right approach. Last night, he got an outside pitch that he could have driven the other way and instead, he rolled over on it and bounced it off the plate. Pathetic.

Mo Done for the Season and This Team Could Be As Well

It was a freak accident and it would be terrible if this is the way Mo’s career ends. I wouldn’t bet against him coming back next year though. The real problem though is that this team is flawed. The middle of the order sucks right now. Texeira in particular looks putrid at the plate. They had a chance to win this game last night with runners on first and second and no outs. What did Texeira do? Grounded into a double play to end the rally. He does this regularly and it is getting old. Robbie Cano looks lost at the plate as well and A-Rod isn’t exactly setting things on fire either. This is a flawed team. They don’t hit with RISP, the Starting Pitching has been bad and their defense is bad as well. If this trend continues, I don’t see them making the playoffs, let alone making any noise when they get there. There is still time to turn things around as it is only May, but thus far, this team has been less than impressive. And now they won’t have Mo for the rest of the year.

A couple of tough losses

OK Yankees fans, first things first.  The sky is not falling.  With a bit of luck, the Yankees could have won either of these two games.  They are in a bit of an offensive slump right now, but this offense will bounce back. With a little luck last night either A-Rod’s or Cano’s hit would have dropped and the Yankees would have won. No such luck. The one thing I am a bit disturbed about is Rafael Soriano.  Now maybe he will turn things around and have a great season.  I know it is early.  But thus far, I just don’t like his demeanor on the mound.  It almost seems like he doesn’t want to be out there.  The missed popup on Monday that led to the second run?  Maybe it was an honest mistake.  In my mind it was Soriano just not caring enough whether or not that ball was going to be caught.  He barely looked at it and had no idea where his infielders were.  Then to say afterward that he didn’t think he could have gotten there?  BS.  This guy looks like trouble and I am hoping I am wrong.

Mike Lupica is a blithering idiot

Over the years, I have watched this guy make a fool of himself on “The Sports Reporters”.  I have read his ridiculous ramblings in the Daily News.  I came to the conclusion long ago that he has no idea what he is talking about in regards to just about anything.  His latest piece of brilliance was an article on how Josh Hamilton showed Alex Rodriguez how it’s done in the ALCS.  Oh really Mike?  And exactly how many rings does Mr. Hamilton have?  Last year, A-Rod proved once and for all that he can perform in the clutch and without him the Yankees would not have won the World Series.  Granted, this year he didn’t hit, but guess what, neither did anyone else not named Robinson Cano.  And oh, by the way, a good deal of Mr. Hamilton’s success can be directly attributed to the Yankees putrid pitching performance in this series.  I know that concept may be hard to grasp for someone like Lupica who really has no idea what he is watching.

One Down, Two to Go

Well, it took a comeback and CC wasn’t as sharp as usual, but a win is a win, especially in a five game series.  Now the Yankees just have to split four and I think they can do that.  I am still not convinced that this team has what it takes to go all the way again, but last night was a step in the right direction.  That first game was huge.  Lots of heroes in this one, from the two RBI singles to bring them within one by Cano and Posada, then the triple by Granderson to give them the lead.  Finally Texeira put things away with the two run bomb.  I haven’t been his biggest supporter this year, but you can’t argue with that one.  As usual, Mo finished things off.  I look for them to win this one in four, and I’m hoping Texas knocks off the Rays, just because I don’t like Joe Madden.  He seems to always blame the umpires when his team loses.

Still not good enough

After winning the first two games of the series against Tampa, the Yankees had a chance to give themselves a little breathing rooom.  They failed miserably.  After a weird rain delayed beat down on Wednesday evening, the Yankees took a 3-1 lead into the sixth against David Price.  Then the wheels fell off.  Oh, by the way, they Yankees had a chance to put this one away in the bottom of the fifth.  With two on and no out, Mark Texeira struck out.  More on that later.  Then A-Rod walked to load the bases with one out.  To win this game, they have to get some runs in here.  They failed to do so with Cano popping up and Thames striking out.  And that was it for them.  This is a disturbing pattern for this team, taking leads, then watching them evaporate.  They have been doing it for two weeks now and if they are going anywhere in October, it needs to stop.  They have got to figure out ways to get runners across and not waste opportunities.  It has been costing them dearly that they cannot do so.

As for Texeira, his numbers this year are very decieving.  Yes he has 30 home runs and over a hundred RBI.  He is also hitting around .250 and when the game is on the line, he almost never comes through.   Not sure why the press ignores this and gives him a pass, while they beat up on A-Rod when he fails, but I for one am calling Tex out.  It’s time to start earning those big bucks and help this team when they need you the most.

Yankees win and Mike Lupica is an idiot

It was another great game at the Trop last night wiht Robinson Cano providing the heroics, but a solid overall effort by everyone involved.  Vazquez was good, Robinson was good, the offense did it’s job and it was a pleasure to watch.  These two teams go at it again today and it should be every bit as good as the first two.

On another note, Mike Lupica is a complete idiot.  This is not a revelation, I know, but his column this morning was an absolute laugher.  The Yankees made some solid moves at the deadline, aquiring Lance Berkman, Austin Kearns and Kerry Wood, and Lupica questions why they feel the need to do so.  He insinuates that they are afraid of Tampa Bay.  What a maroon!.   They had the opportunity to make the team better and the did so at minimal cost in prospects and salary.  Isn’t that what a GM is supposed to do?  It had nothing to do with what Tampa Bay did or didn’t do, it was to make the Yankees better, plain and simple.  I can’t believe that guy actually gets paid for his ridiculous opinions.

Time to wake up

I guess the good news is that the Yankees are still tied for first after losing 3 straight.  The bad news is that they have allowed the Red Sox to creep to within 1 game.  It’s time for the Yankees to wake up and start winning games against competitive teams.  I won’t even say good teams, because I am not convinced that the Phillies team that beat them two out of three can even be considered one of the better teams in the NL East at this point.  The problem is easy to see.  The middle of the order other than Cano is killing them.  Texeira has been pathetic and A-Rod very inconsistent.  Posada has been putrid since coming back except fot the two Grand Slams last weekend.  This team needs some consistency in the middle of the order if they are to go anywhere this year.  They are very talented, but it is performance that counts, not talent and this team’s best players are underperfoming this year.  The saviors have been Cano, Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher who all have been solid for the most part.

And the Yankees win another one against the last place O’s

OK, I get it.  The Yankees need to win these games and they are getting it done.  Excuse me if I am not impressed with the way they are doing it though.  Struggling to beat the O’s while Tampa absolutely destroys a Toronto team that the Yankees just lost 2 of 3 to does not impress me.  This team is still having trouble getting runners across early in the game and against good teams it has hurt them and will continue to hurt them until they get it figured out.

Other than Cano, the middle of the order is the culprit.  A-Rod is inconsistent at best in these situations and Texeira has been pathetic.  The bottom of the order continues to produce and without them, this team would be in real trouble.

Suspended game and more of the same on offense

Well, last night’s suspended game looked a lot like the past week’s games.  The Yankees get runners on, then can’t get them home.  I read somewhere this past weekend that a scout had said this about the team.  “Wanna know how to get the Yankees out?  Just let them get a couple of guys on base.”    His analysis was proved out in full force in the fourth inning last night as Jeter and Gardner got on with no outs.  Texeira then hit a weak little bloop to second on the first pitch, A-Rod struck out on a pitch in his eyes and Robinson Cano Flied out to left center.  Absolutely pathetic, but very consistent with the way this offense has been performing.  I am tired of hearing how Texeira will snap out of his funk.  The time is now.  The team needs him.  The other two, I can’t really complain about as they haven’t been red hot, but have had their moments.  The offense as a whole has been absent for over a week now.  Time to break out the bats boys.
